The subject matter is the exploration of the beauty and complexities of “Black Life” and what that means to you.
The maximum runtime for submissions is 20 minutes.
The genre is open. Documentaries, scripted dramas, comedies, interview compilations, animation and countless other possible genres are all acceptable, as long as they’re 20 minutes or less.
Your project must have been shot and edited after January 1, 2019.
The submissions dates are June 15 - August 15.

Once all of the submissions are in, the Top 10 projects will be selected and the winners will be notified on Saturday, August 29.
During the Black Life Film Fest, all 10 short films will stream virtually on Saturday, September 5 via MTANow mobile app, Swirl’s Instagram Live and Zoom.
All 10 filmmakers will receive $5,000 towards their journey into the film industry. Winners will also have the opportunity to meet with Mansa Productions for potential distribution deals for your project.
Immediately following the screening, the Top 5 short films will be selected. The winners will have the opportunity to pitch and workshop additional projects at our Atlanta-based Swirl Films and Mansa offices with our producers, writers, directors and editors.
